PALMER RAPIDS, ON, FEBRUARY 12, 2010 – The 5th annual Reel Paddling Film Festival premiered last night at the Bloor Cinema downtown Toronto, hosted by The Complete Paddler. The largest premiere audience in festival history was treated to the first screening of this year’s award winning films.

The American Whitewater Journal was first published in 1955 as the first whitewater magazine in the United States.

Technique commentary: Note the hand positions on reverse strokes. Very extended bracing positions. Backferries used extensively, explained as defensive method. Offensive, aggressive techniques promoted.

The highlight of my spring every year is leading the ACA Instructor Certification Workshop. I usually do this two to five times a year... always in Moab Utah, and in Durango, Colorado. I've taught the class in Switzerland, Germany, Canada, and around the USA.

The symposium program is primarily directed at those who actively promote the sport. Workshops are designed to support the grassroots feeder programs that encourage new and continued participation. The result is empowering more people to take on productive roles in stewarding whitewater kayaking development.

Lets all redouble our efforts to sell the availability of great fun on the super safety of class II-III!My wife has to continuously point out to her family that I am not a waterfall crazed kayaker. Her mom just returned from a trip to Alaska, carting a full page newspaper article about some extreme paddlers there. I respect anyone's right to run the steeps, but I sure regret when that becomes the impression that the general public holds of kayakers.

I recently had opportunity to visit Canada, and visit with many of their top paddling instructors. While many of their issues are the same as instructors worldwide, some are different. I was guest speaker to Palmerfest, and thier first ever instructor symposium.
